This book is an excellent compilation of (all?)the research on what actually works in community building. It is an absolute "must-read" for anyone or any organization who/which is interested in community by: Community: the structure of belonging is a great resource for organizations interested in building community. A sense of community is the core of a strong organization. In a day and age where overload is the norm, time and commitment is rare and valuable. Individuals will not give of their time and commitment by:   12 books to read for understanding, community building, resistance and action. And either way, books are crucial. Thoughtful books help us . The layers of meaning in these stories run deep, so we teachers have license when choosing picture books to match our community-building themes with the perfect book. While the purpose of these early read-alouds is really community building, I can’t help but squeeze in some instruction about literary elements as well.
